During Berkshire Hathaway’s 1997 annual meeting, he referenced the 1974 market crash where the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 52%. He noted that despite the chaos, the country did not disappear and extreme market behavior is good for those who stay composed. Earlier this month, the S&P 500 briefly entered bear market territory, dropping over 20% from its February high, while the Dow experienced consecutive drops of 1,500 points.
